about

TWO DAYS IN SPACE (Volume 1 & 2) (2004):
Back in 2007 (in my “Nearly Complete Catalogue”) I wrote…

”A project that never really was finished: I had produced a lot of tracks in the hope of finding collaborating artists (guitarists, singers...), but after a while it became obvious that once more time troubles killed any progress and inspiration.
So, after some months I collected what had surfaced and reshaped it to instrumentals, which move between pop, dance, space music and experimental electronica.

It were quite a lot of tracks, so it grew into a double album... ;-) “

Actually, this was a rather condensed summary. In fact, it is true that *some* of the tracks on this album were meant for possible collaborations, but not all (by far – maybe all in all 40 %...? Well, to be honest I don’t remember it that clearly).

But a lot of tracks actually had been conceived as instrumentals (and solo pieces) from start – I had a pool of tracks that had not been included in any particular album at that time, and when putting together my promotional CD box “No Single Single” used them to “fill up” albums that needed a little more material (of course provided the older stuff fitted in nicely). This, for example, was the case with two older pieces ending up on Volume 1; even if still unused, I thought they were quite cool, and I still do – “Determiné L’Hauteur” and “No Signs of Life”!

Also, most of the experimental tracks (obviously) were never designed for offering them to a singer – but the slightly electro-pop-ish tunes were, like “Hit Me” or “Old Friends” on Volume 2 (the latter arguably being the weakest track in the set…).

All in all, this set of two albums – which indeed rather should be considered a double album, but originally was split in single CDs because a double CD* wouldn’t have worked in the design context of the CD box – is another example for my ecclecticism, but maybe not the best one (I think on albums like “Salaméander” or “Daydream” my tendency to mix a lot of different styles workes much better…).

But still, it’s an entertaining (if at times slightly challenging) listen, including quite a few great tracks, and a couple of adventurous experiments…

* I decided to still offer TWO DAYS IN SPACE as two seperate "Volumes", but at (almost) half of the standard price each... :-)
