Antiferromagnet

Richard Gürtler "Antiferromagnet" continues to grow on me with every new exploration as the album continuously exposes a handful of peculiar soundcarvings. And what really counts on this 63-minute long recording is the strong "scientific" focus, relentlessly propelled by magnificently labyrinthine arrangements!!! Sure, to my taste quite bizarre at times, even nearly driving me insane at some moments, but always grippingly venturesome and distinctively engrossing. Well-accomplished, Michael!!!

about

I count ANTIFERROMAGNET as my ablum Nr. 76.

It is a pure ambient / drone / soundscape album - only atmosphere, not a single beat.

The story behind it is that in 2003, as an experiment I tried to produce a decent ambient album in just one day. Eventually, the bigger part of these tracks indeed were recorded in one go, but due to a shortness of hard disc space on my old Mac, I moved the project to an archive CD-R, making room for other projects that seemd to be more important at that moment.

I finally returned to the material three years later (when in 2006 I finished most of my shelved projects for inclusion in my large CD set "No Single Single"). Now equipped with a new Mac and much more harddisk space, some additional recordings were made and the final mix was achieved in another two or three days.

Although this album started just as a little side project, as the years went by it turned out that it was (and still is) one of my favorites from my own catalogue...
