about

ASCENSIONS - which I count as my 30th album - has an interesting evolution: actually, all the basic tracks were composed back in 1999 (or even before that) but finished (in the versions on THIS album*) only some eight years later, in the summer of 2007. All of them on the same hot summer day during my vacation in that year, as I still vivdly remember:
My wife had a rare visitor on that day, a good friend who had moved to The Netherlands (incidentally, that lady visited us again just a few days ago).

Anyway, due to that visit, I had the day off to work on music - in fact there were only a few bits and pieces left to finish my big promo CD set "No Single Single", including those old "techno" tracks that had hibernated in a somewhat embyonic state until that day.

For whatever reason, there occured a flash of inspiration like only a handful of times in my life, and I had a big time remixing and rearranging those basic tracks and adding new material to flesh out what before had been rather "skinny". I really loved that experience, and still get a special kick from this album whenever I revisit it...

So, it's hard to determin from when these tracks are: they still carry that "techno" vibe I engaged in during the late 90ies for a while, but what makes them most engaging was added in 2007.

* some of these tracks are contained in - considerably - different versions on some of my other (early, dance-ish) albums.
