about

Salamëander (recorded in the summer of 2004) is one of those albums I always considered to be a bigger achievement in my little world of music, and listening to it again today I feel it stood the test of time rather well...

It's actually an album with a concept - but not on the story-telling level, but at the level of sound, or sound manipulation rather:
In all (or well: most) of the tracks I explored the possibilities of (often heavy and complex) feedback in various ways, sometimes more obviously, at others less - like using it for sound design and background structures which were later edited further.

In terms of style, it's a quite wild mix - which I used to be very fond of at the time. Accessible electro pop songs coexist with more abstract, experimental sound creations, and atmospheric, almost melodic instrumentals and ambient tracks with nervous cuts'n'clicks-ish stuff...

Still there is some method to the arrangement of tracks, for example structure the five parts of "Digital Feedback System" the album in different "chapters"...

Another (mildly) funny thing about this album is that while I recorded it, I had a different title for it in mind, "The Zoo of Bubble-On" ("Bubble-On" meaning "Babylon"). I had even made a sketch for the cover art (included in the bonus files on this download, btw.) - but dropped it when a good friend of mine told me that there's a Britpop/-rock project called "Babylon Zoo" who had a hit in the late 90s (which I, as he mentioned it, seemed to vaguely remember...).

The final cover perhaps is a bit subdued and reveals it's charms (I guess) only on second look, but I still think it's quite cool (it should be viewed also in relation to the back cover, though...)
