about

2007, in my "nearly complete catalogue" I described this early album of piano based sketches briefly as:

"A collection of "piano" tunes, some classically, others jazz inspired..."

...and there is not a lot to add to that, except maybe:

Some of these tunes are emulations of piano / acoustic bass / drums "jazz" trios, while others are rather emulations of neo-classical piano chamber music.
The majority of these were programmed (as opposed to played live on a real piano or keyboard).
I need to mention that because otherwise I may trick You into believing that I'm a skilled piano player (at least back in 1995 my then new, now old friend Klaus Chmielewski believed so until I confessed the truth... ;-) )
All I can claim is that I composed this stuff, some of which would probably be respectable if recorded by a real pianist. While other parts are rather ridiculous and juvenile (...but were, at the time, fun too, to me).

Plus some early improvisations on my wife's very real Yamaha baby grand piano, which she decided to sell a few years later in order to help our little family pay the rent and food etc.

Which I mourn ever since... ;-)

P.S. Listening to this old music again, I can clearly see that I was inspired by music of such brilliant musicians and composers as Azizah Mustafa Zadeh, Keith Jarrett, Eric Satie or Claude Debussy - in a way...

But even if that's not untrue, to state it is misleading, overblown, if not straight megalomaniac - of course, I could never - not back then, not today - hold a candle to any of these geniuses. However, I still would never have even done these humble ditties if I never had heard their music, and in this very direct sense, the statement is true...

By the way: "The Grass is always Greener" was the earliest thing I ever made up - originally on the terrible electric harmonium I had found on the street in 1991, where I used to practice (easy) Indian mantras and other chants on during my "yoga phase"... The version on this album is a later rendition of it, but I used to play a variation of it each time I improvised on piano in the late 90s.
