about

(26) UNDERWATER CHILLIES (1999-2000)

As also mentioned elsewhere, in the years between 1997 until finally accomplishing "Movies Moving In My Head" in late 2000, I had gotten slightly confused (again) which musical way to follow.
This started with the arrival of hard disc recording in the shape of my first Mac in 1997. Before that, I had used 4-track cassette as a medium and also had come to the conclusion that ambient would be the path (just having finished "A New Age", which I had counted as a milestone in my personal evolution as an artist).
But with new technology more options came along, and old ideas to produce more traditional (instrumental) music raised their heads again, so I found myself once again experimenting with elements of jazz, rock, pop and now also dance and chill-out. While this was interesting for some years, I remember that in 2000 particularily, I wasn't all happy with my own music and had a strong longing to arrive somewhere (...which eventually happened).

However, when revisiting the material in 2007 on occasion of putting together my big promotional CD set "No Single Single" I realised that quite a lot of interesting music had been recorded during these years, and the core of about 6 tracks which - with the addition of some more tracks recorded one or two years later - would become "Underwater Chillies" is definitely among my better work from back then.

As the title suggests, "Underwater Chillies" offers (mostly) laid-back chillout electronica, sometimes leaning a bit more to trance, at others a little more to contemporary new age. All in all one of my rather accessible albums...
