about

Originally this album was recorded in late 1998 as a birthday present for my younger brother (and *not* as an "official" release), who then already was (and still is) a gothic and death metal musician and producer. Accordingly, You can find gothic/rock/industrial à la Brückner on this album, partly inspired by bands like Tiamat, and if back then I had a singer, most of these tracks would actually be songs. Other influences included Ozric Tentacles and Massive Attack.

When I created my big promotional CD box "No Single Single" in 2007, at first I hesitated to include this one - at least without further edits - partly because of some little "gimmicks" like the "Happy Birthday To You" opening, and also because I thought that some tracks didn't quite turn out like intended and probably no one would enjoy this attempt at "electronic metal" (or whatever) anyway.

However, listening to the old album again after many years, I felt it had a quite unique "charme" of it's own if You don't expect it's sound to match the idols which I have listed above. And therefore it's presented here "as is" - birthday chimes and all...

In the bonus track section, there's one particular track (which is - unlike the rest of the album - not from 1998, but 2003) that features my brother Steffen on electric guitar and Cilia di Ponte's (fairy like) singing, thus more genuinly resembling some sort of gothic rock - however after this first rough demo version, the project never was developed further. Still, it shows another direction into which my music (or some of it) might have gone, if I had met the right people (for that) at the right time...
