about

This album was my first ever attempt at "real" club sound; probably a weird variety of Hardtrance (You see, I'm clearly not a purist if it comes to microscopic sub-genre divisions; on the contrary, I'm a musical omnivore...).

By the end of the 90s I finally had taken more interest in the dance / techno genre (which in former years I used to despise) after friends had initiated me to several albums from more creative and progressive dance artists than I knew from the local parties etc. I had experienced before.

Around the time also the first virtual synthesizers arrived that aimed at dance sounds (like for example the rather popular "ReBirth" by Propellerhead, which I actually used on most tracks of this album) and while I at first only saw that as a budget chance to get"analog" sounds after all (but at first not intending to do "techno") little by little I started to dabble in dance music - and this was the first (but not worst) example of my efforts in the genre.

It was a rather naive and - obviously - also often humorous way to approach the matter; actually I had good fun producing most of this stuff - but some tracks are actually also a bit "deeper" (hopefully).

For the purpose of releasing dance music in the first place I also invented the "fashionable" project name mbp (short for: michael brückner project, but also an anagram of bpm = beats per minute). I used it for the first time here, but dropped it again a few years later...

Speaking of "humorous" - one track, Beautiful Music, was so bizarr and actually quite annoying with all kind of "funny" distorted voices all over it that I decided to replace it by a new version, where those voices are cut well back and the groovy sequences rule instead; the original version still is added - for hysterical, erm: historical reasons ;-)

And: original only meant as a background soundscape for the new version of "Beautiful Music" I also have added a new ambient piece, entitled "Beauty Loops". ENJOY! :-)
